11/06/2005 Archived Entry: "Best Buy in King of Prussia can't help their customers"

I was in Pennsylvania recently for a project and needed to pick a TV set for the job. It was an example in horrible customer service.

This is the Best Buy located in King of Prussia, PA. . I need a standard 27" TV. I did not need a 52" plasma screen. I went into the store and found the TV I wanted. I just wanted a clerk to help me complete the sale by getting the TV. Now the TV comes in a rather large box. So I would need a dolly at the very least to get it out of the store. I go over and ask a salesperson by the cell phones. This was the first salesperson I could find. I explained that I wanted to purchase a TV and that I just needed a hand with the TV. He then told he could not help me. I was like I understand you are with the cell phone area of the store. Could you get me someone from the Television section to help me with the TV. This is where it starts to go downhill. The salesguy said no. I am like excuse you can't help me and you can't get someone to help me? That's right. There is nothing I can do for you.

*sigh*

This is going to be one of those days. I then walk away from him and start looking for another sales person. I find one. I ask him if he could help me. He said he couldn't. So I asked him if he could get me someone from the television area that could. He said he would try. I had hope. He came back and said that all of the TV salesman were busy and no one would be able to help me. I noticed that all of the TV salesmen were in the plasma screen area with TVs that cost much more than mine. I asked if there was a way someone else could help me, he said no. So I wanted a TV and was not going to be able to get anyone to help me.

*sigh*

I am a practical person. I can help myself. So I storm into the back area of the store where inventory is delivered and past the loading dock people who are just sitting there with stunned looks on their faces as I go up grab a dolly and march back into the store with it. I then proceed to the area on the sales floor where my TV is. I grab the box and place it on the dolly, suddenly I am being offered help. I respond with I think I can handle this myself, be careful you could be missing out on a big sale.

I then roll the dolly with the TV up to the register. There are security people at the entrance to make sure I am going to pay for the TV. All of a sudden I am getting lots of attention. And it just gets better. The yahoo at the register screws up the sale not once, not twice, but three times. I am paying with a company credit card. So by the third time the credit card company has turned off the card. I am furious, the manager asks if there is a problem. I explain there is it is called bad management. He now doesn't like my attitude. I have a line of customers behind me. I look back at them and say. I apologize for the delay but the store can't find a salesperson to help me and the person at the register has rung up the sale incorrectly so many times that my credit card has been turned off , security thinks I want to steal something and the manager is just now beginning to realize he is an ineffective leader. I am not sure when this register will be working properly again so I would see if another is available because I know you have been in line for a while.

I look around noticeably.

Oh I am sorry the managment has also not seen fit to open another register. Please be patient and you might be able to make it out of here before christmas. The people in line catch my humor the manager is very sullen looking and now has set himself up to ring up my sale. I explain I will put it on my card because I do not want to have to make the people behind me wait a half an hour for you to deal with my business credit card company to release it from it's siezed state because your clerk rang it up wrong three times. By the way I need you to void out those sales because he hasn't done that yet. I am not quiet when I say this.

The sale gets rung up and a couple of the security people leave. As I am heading out the door with the TV on the dolly the security person at the door looks at me and says "receipt." I look at him astonished and say chase me out into the parking lot if you want it that bad and continue right past him. He does not follow me. I load the TV into the car. I left the nice green almost new dolly in the parking lot. I hope someone stole it.
