Last night power was restored to my house. I was thrilled. No more generator. About an hour after they restored it. A phase dropped out. I didn't realize it because I was in bed. However waking up to a non working ac unit and no water pressure and several fried electronic devices gave me a clue. I called FP&L this morning and they entered into their vast database of never to be worked on tickets. I understand a little. I mean I am grateful to have power back but it wasn't exactly working power. When I got home from work one of the neighbors was in the same boat but he had seen a utlity truck and asked them if they could come back and take a look at the issue. They did. Took them about 20 minutes.

After power was restored I went and check through the houseload appliances. The water pump wasn't working properly. Somehow the pump working at weird voltages had caused the water line to lose it prime.
I spent about a half an hour getting the pump working again.

Somehow the restoration of power did as much damage to my electronics as the hurricane did to my house.

Well it looks like Florida Power and Light are finally coming into my neighborhood. Actually it was one of the out of state contractors. The lights are coming on but the brown outs are terrible. My generator which gives dirty power is cleaner than what I am getting now. I have unpluged some items but it looks like I may have lost a few of my electronic items from this. I think I am grateful that I have power back. Now If I could just get the UPSes to stop beeping.

Welcome to Burningman Florida. The rules here are slightly different than at the offical Burningman event.

1. Leave every trace.
This means if you don't at the very least have shingles from your neighbors roof in your yard go and get some.
2. Drama queens and whiners are a must.
There are actually people here who must spend at least four hours in line to get gas, even though they really have no place to go.
3. Cash is the only way to go.
Please don't try to barter or trade services or gifts that is just silly. I mean it's not like the ATMs require electricity.
4. Always listen to your government they know what is best for you.
Despite four hurricanes last year and the power being out around for at least a month in some places, the government's recommendation is that you have 3 days of food and water for after the hurricane, by then 90 % of services will be restored. Today is day 4 and Palm Beach county is not yet at 40%.
5. Remember you must drive your car to get anywhere even if it is only 2 blocks away.
All intersections are four way stops but most people just disregard it. The population thinning is incredible. If you have a bike why use it. It's not like getting gas is going to be a problem with no power.
6. You can watch the man burn everynight.
Currently due to damage to structures and generators there is at least one home or business catching fire everyday. Bring marshmellows.
7. If you are actually prepared and able to survive Burningman Florida, remember we cannot guarantee this as an annual event. Sometimes we don't have it for years and sometimes we throw it four times a year.

Also notes: Burningman New Orleans was a wash out. It was great but we couldn't get enough people to wade and swim in the contaminated water, please help by sending floats , rafts and water wings to the church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

Currently in Florida, on a generator, with food and gas, and lots of beer. I have new skylight in the kitchen from the tree deciding to relocate itself during Burningman Florida. Currently don't need anything, send looters we didn't any have like Burningman New Orleans.

I am getting really good with a chainsaw.

Sincerely,
Brendhan

Well it looks like hurricane Wilma has done some pretty serious damage to the house. I am on a job in Pennsylvania with no idea if I will get home today. Janel had to weather the whole storm alone. This really sucks.
