I decided that I was going to address a letter to the powers that be about picking up some of the items that have left behind by the Solid Waste Authority. I decided I would photograph some of the garbage and email all the powers that be. The one thing I asked was that they quit hiding behind bull and do something about it. Guess what they can't do it.
Here is the letter:
Hi ,
Since the last CCRT meeting was so enlightening and I have so much free
time I decided with the seconds I have to spare that I would go down two
streets (tropical and westtrail) and photograph some of the garbage that
is being left behind. Some of the garbage is left behind because it in
not the proper size, some is left behind because it is on vacant lots,
some is left behind with pretty little stickers on it. Everyone has a
reason for leaving it behind.
I have a novel idea, how about someone picks it up.
Oh I can see the finger pointing now.
Maybe you can leave the boat behind as I may need the next time this
area floods (sarcasm).
Instead of making excuses citing codes and statues, since many of the
people in this area at least made an effort to make semi organized
piles, maybe someone could make a little extra effort and stop splitting
hairs.
You can see the pictures at :

And that was just a few streets I wonder how much there is if you look
down more streets.
If you have any further questions please contact me at xxx-xxx-xxxx
Sincerely,
Brendhan

Well I got a response. It was typical government BS of a response. The only thing I am going to edit is my orginal letter. You don't need to read that twice.
Here is the letter:
HI Brendhan,
Thank you for the street locations and photos. The contracts for
curbside service do have some guidelines to follow. Size does
matter-vegetation is to be cut to under 6 foot and not any piece over 50
lbs. This has become known as the 6 ft 50 lb rule). The billing for
service is on the tax roll with no billing or service for vacant land.
The service provider is to tag piles that do not meet service
guidelines. The tags sometimes get removed or come up misssing so we can
provide a courtesy letter to the owner or just talk to the neighbors to
share information. The stickers that the haulers can use are bright
orange and bright yellow.
Boats, loose construction debris and some of the other items shown in
your photos will not be picked up by the service provider. They will
cooperate and help us clean up anytime we ask but some education must be
done first to the residents.
The boat will not be removed and will be considered illegal dumping.
The boat is to be inspected and ownership pulled. The owner of record
will be instructed remove all items and dispose of properly and be
afforded their time for restitution.
The SWA Customer Service works with any and all agencies whether it is
their job or not. These semi organized piles are not organized and we
would love the opportunity to educate the residents that are there.
We have helped many with the constant education of garbage, trash ,
vegetation and recycling in your community.
We are hoping for no Hurricanes this year but we do have a program in
place for your neighbors and residents to follow.
We at Swa CIS welcome your information.

Damn can't anybody read? Quit hiding behind the bullcrap. These people have made an effort to put the stuff on the curb and keep it cut to a managable size. Now I realize that the hurrican clean up is offically over. However this is a neighborhood of working class people including FP&L and Bellsouth . Also a lot of roofers. Many of whom have had no break since Wilma.
Instead of hiding behind regulation come by with a truck and pick it up. Okay so the boat may be a bit much. However the reason that stuff is getting dumped on the vacant lots is because you guys won't pick it up. How about you pick up the mattresses, tires , and call a tow company to get the boat?
You know I have an idea. I will rent a chipper and take all the tree matter and turn into mulch. If I can dump the mulch on the front door of swa office I will do it for free. Because I know it would get cleaner up then. If I have to haul it, I will charge $500/hour plus the rental fee of the chipper and dump truck.

Well they finally leaned up the mess. It took the sheriff's department and the code enforcement putting presure on the Solid Waste Authority to clean it up. So basically the people at the SWA despite telling me it wasn't their job got told it was and cleaned it up.
